Private Montana Ranch
A PlaceTo Stay.
Unlike traditional races, the ROO Backyard Ultra keeps runners, crews, families, and spectators together throughout the event.
Every hour, runners return to the same start line before heading back onto the course. Your crew isn't chasing aid stations across town. They're part of every lap, every decision, and every defining moment.
Spend the day exploring the ranch, meeting fellow runners, and watching the field narrow until only one athlete remains.

Why We Built ROO
Most races are measured by times, medals, and finish lines.
We believe they are remembered for something else entirely.
The place. The people. The stories you leave with.
In 2026, we brought a group of runners to a private ranch in the Montana mountains to find out what would happen if we built a race differently.
They stayed for 39 hours.
What started as a race became something we want to return to every year.
We don't want ROO to become the biggest race.
We want it to become one you can't imagine missing.
Come For The Race.Return For The Tradition.
ROO is a race weekend built on private Montana ranchland, bringing together multiple distances, a Backyard Ultra, and the people who make the experience what it is. Different races. Different goals. One weekend at the ranch.
ROO weekend includes the 50K, 25K, 10K, Lil Bucks Mile, and the ROO Ultra Backyard Ultra. Whether you are racing your first trail 10K or seeing how long you can keep going, there is a place for you on the start line.
The Lil Bucks Mile is built for our youngest runners. The 10K offers an approachable taste of the ranch. The 25K steps into longer-distance trail racing. The 50K delivers the full ultramarathon challenge. And the ROO Ultra asks a different question entirely: how long can you keep going?
Explore The Races→ROO takes place on private ranchland near Clancy, Montana, surrounded by the Elkhorn Mountains. The landscape is not simply where the races happen. It is part of the experience.
Absolutely. ROO is designed to be experienced together. Family, friends, crews, and spectators are part of the weekend, from the shorter Friday races through the final hours of the ROO Ultra.
Registration for the 2027 ROO race weekend opens September 14, 2026.
